The evening began with putting up the final mezuzah in our new home. Laura Wharton and Yossi Havilio, and Nachum Ido each spoke eloquently about the importance of Shutaf’s inclusion work in Jerusalem – for all children of all abilities.
There were informational exhibits about Camp Shutaf programs and Shutaf’s year-round Young Leadership Program for Teens and Young Adults, including our groundbreaking Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Safety Unit. (Shutaf was the first organization to create such a program for young people with disabilities.) Special guest speaker, Chen Ditman, an educator in this field who presents the unit to our participants, spoke about the need for more programs like Shutaf who are willing to offer this critically needed information for teens with disabilities.
Everyone enjoyed the delicious soups prepared by our Young Leadership teens and the snacks that were managed by participants in our 21+ program. It was a celebratory, warm and inviting event marking an important milestone in Shutaf’s history. Mazal Tov!
